Yearning for your own personal retreat?

A place to relax and refuel. That’s what we all yearn for in our homes, right? We long for that one space in this world that we can shut out all outside chaos and surround ourselves with thigs that bring us peace.

Our own personal home retreat.

The Retreat Designer

After giving many retreats as a Christian Life Coach, I have a continued passion for helping women find space and time to reconnect with their dreams and desires. I feel called to use my gifts as a designer to create spaces that  ground you, renew you and fill you up so that you can go live out your passions and calling in the world.  With all the noise in the world, I love building spaces that invoke a sense of calm and solitude in your home. Sometimes it’s just one room that serves as the special getaway, sometimes your whole home needs a redo.  In the end we want a special style in your home that gives you a sense of comfort and connection.

Do you have a retreat space in your home ? If not, it’s time you created one.

Today I’m going to start a series on how to create your personal retreat space. Of course, as your designer I can help you to bring it into existence with my professional touches!

Part one: Create Calm through Color.

Create Calm with Color

Everyone finds peace with different colors. Some of you feel calmed by muted soft neutrals that make you take a deep breath and relax the moment you walk in. Or maybe you may love the darker deep rich tones that ground you as you sit and curl up in your chair with a good cup of coffee and book.

Choosing a color scheme for a retreat space doesn’t have to be complicated but it can be tricky if you don’t have the eye for color. This is where a designer with the eye for color can help you with getting the blend of colors perfect for you.
Begin by choosing a color pallet with colors that reflect what style YOU love and resonates with your personality.

Which of the following color schemes would be your ideal home retreat style?

Style #1   White and Bright

The white and bright color scheme is perfect if you love things clean and fresh. This style can come off cold and harsh if you’re not careful but you can soften it with gold fixtures and colorful pillows.

Do you love the idea of a white and bright retreat space in your home?

Yes! Style #1 is fun for me.

Style #2   Muted Neutral Tones

If these colors appeal to your sense of peace, then the soft muted neutral color pallet is best for your home retreat. Grays blended with natural tones like the woods pictured here offer a feeling of comfort and softness. You could also use light blues or other pastels the get the peaceful space you crave.

Do these colors make you want to curl up with a good book?

Yes! Style #2 is comforting to me.

Style #3   Rich Earthy Shades

Deep rich earthy colors ground this home retreat style. I’m showing dark green wall paint colors here but you can also use navy blue, burnt orange or mustard yellow as you base color and the blend it off with stone or brick with lots of texture.

How about this one? Is this your favorite?

Yes! I feel connected to Style #3

Style #4   Basic Black with Bold Accent

Can black really be a retreat color for your home? Yes, it certainly can. Black and white are very popular right now and its high contrast combination might just be perfect fit for your style. Don’t forget to throw in a bold pop of color to create that finished style.

Is this your home retreat style?

Yes! Style #4 is perfect for me
